About me

Biography
Jantien de Bruin (1971)
Jantien de Bruin, lives and works in Arnhem. Her youth in Switzerland continues to influence on her photographic work. After a study in Photography and Cinematography she initially specialized in documentary photography. Over time, she developed her autonomous style, preferring to tell stories and portray subjects in a more free-form manner. Her work is often described as “restrained, testifying to an almost self-evident historical realization.” Atmosphere and aesthetics play an important role, often combining elements of intimacy and distance, creating a personal yet universal feeling.
By using an environment as a framework, she gives her work a documentary character with a personal interpretation. Her photographs and films are intimate and sensitive projects in which she takes the time to deeply explore a subject.
Themes like shelter, memories and connection are often the underlayment of her work.
