Sister Love
Sister Love is a story about Loss, memory and connection, and it was made after the suicide of my sister in 2015. After my sister’s death, I felt the need to create a memory. Making this project helped me to live through the grieving process.
Sister Love is to be seen in an installation at Museum van de Geest in Haarlem. The story is als to experience in the book Sister Love. It can be ordered here

The Museum of the Mind is fascinated by the work of art inside your head. Because nothing is as diverse, unique, powerful and yet so fragile as the human mind. Through its art and cultural programs, the museum helps to bring mental health and neurodiversity into the open.
For many reasons Sister Love fits in this profile. The depression my sister was suffering from made her so desperate she felt there was no other way to escape from and made her commit suicide.
The installation in the museum is a combination of elements. The elments are objects, video's and photographs. They tell about our shared past, about mys sisters changing character during the years and about the rituals I created that were part of the grief I felt the years after her death.
The Book
The book Sister Love is a different experience then the installation in the museum. The book contains a collection of photographs that tells the story from a another perspective. The emotion and memories in a certain order.
Designer Suze Swarte made beautiful design with different papers, sizes and details. There is coating over the bodyparts of my sister. You can recognize her bij moving the paper a little bit and notice a subtile gloss.
